Banishing Bedskirts?

Former Domino Editor, Sara Ruffin Costello recently wrote her her first article (hopefully of many) for the Wall Street Journal entitled "Bye- Bye Bedskirts."  In it she, along with her beyond-chic designer friend, Miles Redd, swear off the bed skirt in exchange for the au-courant tailored bed-cover.  She's right, the design tides have turned.  Gone are the days of the uber-feminine dust-ruffles.  Just look at all of these gorgeous bedrooms...not a skirt to peek under!

I myself am not ready to throw the baby out with the bath water.  I still like a tailored pleated bedskirt and since I only have a headboard, I need the fabric to hide the ugly frame feet!  What do you think?  Is it "bye-bye bedskirts" for you?

I love the look without the bed skirt~
My bed has a skirt for the same reason as you...
Maybe a tailored bed skirt is the answer. I love those clean lines.

with hardwoods and kids & a dog I have to have a bedskirt. It truly is a dust ruffle--it keeps out the dust and easier for me to clean. If I could vacuum everyday, then I do love the look!

I am with the new movement here...I really prefer the clean lines...although I do have a rather large/long basket at the foot of our bed (under the bench there) for the purpose of hiding the frame feet...so I do understand that component!

I use a box spring cover myself, but for those with limited storage options a bedskirt allows for underbed storage. Can we all agree to banish the ruffly ones though?

it's no skirt for me, too. this was a great post - enjoyed seeing all those images of 'skirtless' beds - makes me feel better about mine!

In the right room with the right bed no skirt looks good. It all depends on the bedroom, as a bed skirt can still looks beautiful. I don't really play to trends, what's best for the room and the client is best for me.

My husband has never liked bedskirts and we have a sleigh bed that really doesn't need one. But I still love the tailored box pleat ones on upholstered headboards (like yours)!

I like both ways - I have a tall clean four poster with a very simple tailored skirt that doesn't go to the floor - so I'm somewhere in between. But certainly looks more modern without. Lovely picks - will check out article!

I don't have a bed skirt on our master bedroom bed---it has the raised panel side rails and headboard, but I do like a tailored bed skirt on beds---besides, our home is small and I have to store things under the bed---can't have that showing!

oh please don't let this new trend catch on!! My bed skirt hides enough magazines to fill a small storage locker. The guest room bed skirt hides toys, out of season clothes and who knows what else is under there!!

I love the look of no bedskirt - but with a NYC apartment I need every oz. of storage I can squeeze into my tiny space. That being the reality - it's bedskirt for me!
