{california here I come}

I'm back, but not for long! My husband and I are getting away next week to the California wine country. I can't even begin to tell you how much we need this time away. We have so many fun adventures planned, yummy eats in store, and a good deal of vino therapy scheduled. We aren't leaving until next Tuesday but I am already packing my bags!!

{collecting myself}

It's going to be a wild week around here (I am beginning to think I say that every week) and I won't be able to blog regularly. While I am away, would you mind sharing with me what you are collecting? Me? Right now I am just trying to collect myself!

{NYFW: The Tory Story}

I am swooning over the elegant 70's inspired sportswear that came down Tory Burch runway today. These pieces are so chic, wearable, and outside of the tunic and "Reva -flat" box that she inhabited for one too many seasons. It seems earth-tones punctuated with a pop of vibrant color is a trend for Spring and I couldn't be loving it more. Whether it manifested in a clothing ensemble or a living room these color combos are tres chic!

{NYFW: unique combinations}

I find this Rachel Roy ensembles' striking mix of of colors inspiring. It reminds me of this refined and remarkable living area designed by Paula Caravelli.

I would find myself feeling just as at home in these Derek Lam ensembles as I would in these fresh blue and white interiors.

This season's fashion week has been delightful, filled with color, longer hemlines (finally) , and plenty of lady-like sophistication. To honor the occasion, thought it would be fun to pair some of my favorite looks with some of my favorite corresponding interiors.

{fall fashion staples}

Has it really been a week since I last posted. Forgive me for the silence. I took a whirl wind trip to Atlanta and then was waylaid with technical difficulties upon my return. I am jumping into another busy week but I couldn't let fashion week pass us by without a pertinent post. I could go on and on about my excitement over what is being shown in New York right now but it might be best for us to focus on the season at hand. When it comes to fall shopping, or any shopping for that matter, I usually go for the basics. Some might find it boring, but with my wild life I like to keep it simple when it comes to getting dressed in the morning. In honor of simplicity, I thought I would share some of my fall wardrobe basics with you. For starters, a lightweight utility jacket is a fabulous piece for fall. I prefer ones that are belted or that at least taper at the waist.

Menswear is big for the fall, so a simple, well cut blazer is a must. I found a great one at Zara, but check here for a similar one from Madewell.

I know horizontal stripes aren't for everyone but I love wearing them, especially when they are layered under a great cardigan or utility jacket. You can find one of these in almost every store, as the nautical trend is still going strong. The one above you can find here.

The weather tends to fluctuate a great deal here in the fall so layers are key. I am stocking up on some great camel colored sweaters to wear over lightweight tanks and t's.

The Brooks Brothers Miracle Shirt is a year-round must. Trust me when I say, it is the best white shirt you will ever own.

This fall it is all about the accessories and structured bags are back in style. I am loving the warm camel color of this Holland Satchel from Tory Burch.
Fall doesn't mean only dark, heavy colors. We all need a little pop of fun. These Tory Burch flats are making me happy (and don't you love that they don't have a large logo on the toe?). These go with almost everything!

For jewelry with an edge, grab a few of these chain cuffs from Madewell.

Everyone needs a great little black dress and I am swooning over this elegant cocktail number from Loeffler Randall. Pair it with statement jewelry and a great pair of shoes like these from Michael Kors and you are ready for a night on the town!
